Azul Completes the Hotel Solea Conversion
Azul Hospitality Group announced the completed conversion of the former Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa to Hotel Solea, Autograph Collection. The release carries a San Diego dateline of 7 October 2026 and dates the work to March 2026.
The Carlsbad resort has traded under the new brand since then. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported the debut on 4 March 2026. Eater San Diego dates the signature restaurant, Verise, to March 2026.
What a Planner Books Today
The resort takes direct bookings from its own site for both Hotel Solea and The Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa. The two properties share one address at 5420 Grand Pacific Drive, one reservations line and one meeting inventory.
Read on 14 October 2026, the site listed 16 room and suite types across the two hotels. Solea inventory runs from the Solea King Bed and Solea Two Kings to the Family Suite and three king suites. Westin inventory runs from the Traditional King and Two Kings to the Deluxe King and Two Kings.
Resort amenities listed on the same date are three pool decks, a waterslide, a spa, pet-friendly rooms and a private entrance to LEGOLAND California for guests of either property. Two packages were live: a coastal dining and oyster-restoration stay, and a golf package with a round at The Crossings at Carlsbad.
The meetings page puts the event space at over 75,000 square feet indoors and outdoors, against the release figure of more than 70,000. The venue list carries 17 options. The Grand Pacific Ballroom runs over 8,000 square feet and divides into two sections. The Sunset Ballroom holds 4,836 square feet and also divides. The Atrium Ballroom holds 4,097 square feet. Outside, the Ocean Blue Lawn holds 10,000 square feet and the Atrium Courtyard 8,711 square feet. The breakout inventory runs to 20 rooms.
Verise publishes its own service windows: breakfast from 6.30 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m., an aperitivo hour from 3 p.m. and dinner until 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Grand Pacific Resorts Owns the Asset
Azul managed the operational transition and repositioning for Grand Pacific Resorts and kept the hotel running through the work. Grand Pacific holds three Azul-managed hotels in Carlsbad. Hotel Solea sits beside The Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa at 208 rooms and The Cassara Carlsbad, Tapestry Collection by Hilton at 119 rooms.
Azul was formed in 2007 and reports almost 4,000 people managing 55 open hotels and assets under development. Alvaro Fraile is chief executive officer. Timothy J. Stripe is co-president and co-owner of Grand Pacific Resorts.
What the Release Leaves Open
The release states no transaction value, no development cost and no management fee. It publishes no rate position, no booking window and no renovation scope beyond the multi-million-dollar description.
Pre-conversion Sheraton listings carried 169 rooms. No source explains the move to 201, so the 201 figure stands as the release count.
One date reads twice in the trade coverage. Hotel Online carries the 7 October 2026 dateline and LODGING Magazine stamps its republication 1 October 2026 under a rewritten headline.
