Daish’s Holidays has appointed Michael Davies as general manager of the Somerset Hotel in Llandudno.
The role covers the daily operation of the hotel, its service standards and its guest experience. Davies holds responsibility for 40 employees.
The remit
The announcement sets the role at one property. Davies describes the move as a change of scale. His previous post carried oversight of several sites, and the new job gives him one hotel with more time for the team and for guests.
Ten years of hospitality experience
The announcement states Davies brings ten years of hospitality experience to the role. It also names his ties to the area and records that he serves as an ambassador for Conwy County and for Snowdonia National Park.
Before joining Daish’s Holidays he worked for Zip World, where the announcement states he oversaw eight forest lodges. Zip World’s own site confirms its Forest Lodges product at Betws-y-Coed in Conwy and prints no lodge count, so the figure of eight is the announcement’s own.
Davies on the move
Davies said: “I was attracted to Daish’s Holidays because of its focus on people and employee wellbeing. I also liked the opportunity to take full responsibility for one property, allowing me to spend more time with the team and our guests. I want to be visible and approachable, whether that’s working in communal areas or chatting with our visitors.”
He added: “A guest once told me that getting older can make you feel invisible, but when they holiday with Daish’s they don’t feel that way anymore. I really like that idea, making sure our customers feel seen and valued.”
The managing director on the hire
George Brown, managing director at Daish’s Holidays, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Michael to Daish’s Holidays. He has already made a positive impression amongst employees and holidaymakers, and his hands-on approach and commitment to creating a welcoming environment are clear to see. Michael brings valuable hospitality and operational experience to the Somerset Hotel, as well as a genuine passion for making sure a great experience is had by all.”
The announcement places the hire inside the group’s continued investment across its hotel portfolio, its teams and its guest experience.
The hotel and the group
The Somerset Hotel sits on the sea front at Llandudno in North Wales and stays open all year. Its own site states it is part of the Daish’s Holidays group of hotels. The page takes coach holiday bookings and routes group bookings above 15 people through the group’s own holidays department.
The group’s site lists the Somerset Hotel in its hotel estate and names Llandudno among its destinations.
Three room counts
Three own-side documents give three different figures for the property. The 2026 appointment states 86 beds and 40 employees. A Daish’s announcement of September 2023 on the same hotel stated 84 rooms with a 31-strong team. The hotel’s current website, carrying a 2025 copyright line, reads “any of our 76 bedrooms”. The appointment carries the newest figure.
The post held before
The general manager seat was last recorded in public as held by Steve Slater. A Daish’s announcement of 26 September 2023 named his internal promotion to the role. The current announcement does not state where Slater moved to.
What the announcement does not state
It names no start date for Davies and no effective date. It carries no reporting line for the general manager role, no commercial targets and no occupancy figures for the property. It gives no team size beyond the 40 employees already named and no detail on any wider restructure at the hotel.
The ten-year experience figure, the Conwy County and Snowdonia National Park ambassadorships and the eight forest lodges are the announcement’s own statements.
