Aimbridge Adds a 456-Key Anchor and a 700-Key Opening in Cincinnati

Aimbridge takes both Portman mandates in Cincinnati, managing the 456-key Westin and operating the 700-key Cincinnati Downtown Marriott when it opens.

Aimbridge takes both Cincinnati mandates from Portman

Aimbridge Hospitality has taken two Cincinnati mandates from Portman Holdings. The company will manage The Westin Cincinnati and will operate the Cincinnati Downtown Marriott when it opens. Aimbridge published the announcement on 5 October 2026.

The pair adds an established 456-key downtown hotel to the operating portfolio and a 700-key convention hotel to the development pipeline Aimbridge will carry to opening. The release places both inside the large-format, full-service work the company says it is built to manage.

The Westin on Fountain Square

The Westin Cincinnati holds 456 keys on Fountain Square, at the center of the city's commercial and cultural activity. The hotel already serves downtown Cincinnati's group, business and leisure travellers. It sits two blocks from the First Financial Center, which positions it for existing convention and group demand.

Portman acquired the hotel in 2025. Portman calls the purchase its first hotel acquisition and the start of a value-add strategy. Renovation work starts next year.

The Marriott and the Convention District

Groundbreaking on the Cincinnati Downtown Marriott took place on 21 July 2026. The 700-key hotel anchors Cincinnati's $828 million Convention District redevelopment. It brings 60,000 square feet of meeting space and a 17,000-square-foot events terrace to the market.

On completion the hotel connects to the First Financial Center by skybridge. The release describes the link as direct access to the exhibition space expected to drive future convention bookings.

One operator across a renovation and an opening

Chris Tatum, president of the full service division at Aimbridge, said the partnership covers the kind of complex, large-scale hospitality asset the company is built to operate. He said running an established downtown hotel while preparing to open a landmark development takes a different kind of operational depth.

Kaunteya Chitnis, managing director of hospitality for Portman, said Cincinnati shows both sides of the firm's strategy at work. He named the acquisition and repositioning of a Fountain Square hotel and the ground-up hotel that will anchor the Convention District, and described Aimbridge as the single operator for both.

What the release leaves open

Aimbridge holds an equity position in the Marriott alongside the management contract. The release gives no equity percentage and no contribution. It records no management fee, no contract term and no performance target for either hotel. It names no opening date for the Marriott.

Portman Holdings describes itself as a national real estate investment, development and management firm spanning seven decades and three continents. Aimbridge operates more than 80 lodging brands and calls itself the world's leading third-party hotel management company. Aimbridge is based in Plano, Texas.
