Crossbasket Castle appoints hotel manager and resort director
Crossbasket Castle has appointed Katie Moran as hotel manager and John Abercrombie as resort director. The Scottish estate continues its multimillion-pound expansion.
The appointments come as the luxury estate near Glasgow prepares to open its Four Angels Spa and a collection of new riverside cabins.
What each role covers
Moran will oversee the hotel operation as Crossbasket expands its accommodation and wider offering.
Abercrombie will oversee the wider estate operation as it develops its accommodation, wellness and leisure offering.
Katie Moran joins from AC Hotel by Marriott
Moran brings more than a decade of hospitality experience across Glasgow hotels. She was most recently hotel manager at AC Hotel by Marriott.
Before that she held senior roles at voco Grand Central Hotel, including food and beverage manager and director of operations. She began her career with IHG and has been recognised with an Acorn Award for emerging hospitality talent.
John Abercrombie joins from The Westerwood
Abercrombie brings more than 20 years of experience across hotel and resort operations. He joins from The Westerwood Hotel, Golf and Spa Resort, where he was general manager of the 148-guestroom resort.
His earlier roles include senior operational positions with Radisson Blu. He was director of operations at the group's Royal Mile hotel in Edinburgh and held an interim leadership role at its Stansted Airport property.
The hotel manager on the moment she joins
"Crossbasket Castle has built a reputation most estates take decades to earn," said Katie Moran, hotel manager at Crossbasket Castle. "I am joining the team at one of the most pivotal and exciting moments in its journey, with an incredible vision for what comes next."
"There is a real sense of momentum across the estate, and I am excited to be part of the team bringing that vision to life," she added. "I look forward to building on what has already been achieved and helping take the guest experience to another level."
The resort director on the team already in place
"The calibre of the team already here is what drew me to Crossbasket Castle," said John Abercrombie, resort director. "There is a huge amount to be proud of, but also an incredible opportunity to build on that success as the estate enters its next chapter."
"My focus is on giving the team the support, leadership and opportunities they need to keep raising the bar," he added, "while ensuring that every aspect of the guest experience reflects the quality and ambition of Crossbasket."
The owner welcomes both appointments
"Crossbasket has achieved an extraordinary amount in a relatively short space of time and that is ultimately down to our team on the ground," said Steve Timoney, owner of Crossbasket Castle.
"People are at the heart of everything we do, which is why Alison Timoney and I are particularly excited to welcome Katie and John to the leadership team," he added. "They bring tremendous experience, energy and fresh perspective and we are looking forward to working closely with them on this next chapter."
The estate behind the appointments
Crossbasket Castle is a castle estate near Glasgow. Its own website lists four ways to stay: the historic castle, a newer hotel building, private lodges, and riverside cabins.
The cabins are the newest of the four. The hotel's site describes them as 12 timber retreats along the river within the castle grounds, open for stays from November 2026.
The estate's recent record: a spa and wellness director joined in June 2026, the hotel opened officially in March 2025, and a recruitment drive was launched in April 2024 on the back of a GBP15m expansion.
