The appointment
Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok named Paul Jones as general manager. The group announced the appointment from Hong Kong on 16 September 2026. Hotel Designs carried it on 18 September 2026 under the byline Pauline Brettell.
Jones served as hotel manager at the property from 2005 to 2008. Hotel Designs dates the return nearly two decades after that tenure.
The inventory the role covers
The property's own pages list 331 rooms and 60 suites. Most carry floor-to-ceiling windows onto the Chao Phraya River or the city skyline. Jeffrey Wilkes designed the reimagined River Wing.
The same page publishes the in-room set: private butler service, 530-thread count linen, Ploh goose down bedding, silk bathrobes, Bluetooth speakers and broadband internet access.
Those keys form the sellable inventory the general manager now runs. The page publishes no rate, no price band by room category and no minimum-stay condition.

The property's own dining page states 12 restaurants and bars. It lists Anne-Sophie Pic at Le Normandie, Baan Phraya, The China House by Chef Fei, Lord Jim's, The Authors' Lounge, The Bamboo Bar, The Verandah, Riverside Terrace, Ciao Terrazza, Sala Rim Naam, Terrace Rim Naam and the Lobby Lounge.
Dining and bar covers sit outside the room rate. The property publishes no cover price, no set-menu price and no booking term for any of the 12.
One hundred and fifty years on the river
The property's own history page states 150 years on the Chao Phraya River and dates its beginnings to The Oriental Hotel in 1876. The page describes the hotel as a place where royalty, writers, artists and world travellers found comfort and inspiration.
An anniversary year carries its own demand. The property publishes no anniversary rate, no stay window and no package term for the milestone.
The career behind the appointment
Jones built his career inside the group. His general manager roles include Mandarin Oriental, Singapore; Mandarin Oriental, Taipei; Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo; and most recently Mandarin Oriental, Geneva.
Before joining Mandarin Oriental he served as general manager of The Oberoi Rajvilas and The Oberoi Vanyavilas in Rajasthan. His earlier roles were in the Middle East and London.
Hotel Designs states that Mandarin Oriental operates 47 hotels, 15 residences and 39 homes in 29 countries and territories.
What the appointment leaves unpublished
