Hilton opens Home2 Suites Clean Energy Prototype to US owners

Hilton opened an optional all-electric Clean Energy Prototype for Home2 Suites to U.S. owners and developers, modelled across 13 cities to cut annual energy costs 18 to 40 per cent.

An optional prototype for US developers

Hilton opened an optional Clean Energy Prototype for Home2 Suites by Hilton to owners and developers in the United States. The company published the offering on 22 September 2026 from New York. Eloise Hanson reported it for Serviced Apartment News on 28 September 2026.

The prototype is offered for new Home2 Suites builds. Hilton states it is not mandatory. The company directs it at developers and owners who want a highly energy-efficient hotel with lower operating costs and lower environmental impact.

What the design changes

The prototype combines all-electric systems, on-site and off-site renewable energy and high-efficiency building technologies. Hilton lists energy-efficient building design and roofing materials, water-conscious landscaping, ENERGY STAR-rated appliances, saline pools, reusable dishware and LED lighting.

Hilton ties the features to guest preferences. The company cites the more than half of guests who say preserving resources for future generations is important to them.

The modelling numbers across 13 cities

Hilton ran a modelling analysis across 13 U.S. cities and attaches four expected outcomes to the design. The analysis projects a 30 per cent gain in energy efficiency, support for a higher property valuation, an 18 to 40 per cent cut in annual energy costs, and a reduction of 440 metric tons in operational carbon emissions. The company attributes every figure to the modelling analysis.

The first zero-emissions prototype made widely available

Hilton calls the design its first prototype built for zero operational emissions and made widely available to hotel owners and developers. The release places Home2 Suites as the Hilton brand with the largest development pipeline in the U.S.

Staab on the brand design history

Talene Staab, brand leader for Home2 Suites by Hilton, tied the prototype to the brand's design record. “Since its launch, Home2 Suites has been built on a foundation of innovation, efficient solutions and flexible design,” she said. “That innovative spirit remains at the core of the brand today, shaping everything from our flexible prototype and operational efficiencies to the amenities and experiences designed for extended stay travellers. This optional prototype represents the natural next step in that commitment.”

Garris Hand on owner energy costs

Jean Garris Hand, vice president and global head of sustainability and responsible business at Hilton, spoke to the owner's cost position. “Our owners, many of whom operate small businesses, are facing rising energy costs and are looking for a turnkey option to lower operating expenses, improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions,” she said. “With the Home2 Suites Clean Energy Prototype, Hilton is working to demonstrate that sustainable innovation can also be a driver of long-term business value.”

The cost comparison behind the figures

Hilton footnotes the 440 metric tons and the 18 to 40 per cent range to market conditions and to a traditional Home2 Suites prototype that runs on natural gas or nonrenewable grid electricity. The release puts U.S. hotel utility costs up 28 per cent over five years, on the American Hotel & Lodging Association figure.

The procurement arm

Hilton points to its procurement arm, Hilton Supply Management, for the wider energy work. The programme helped participating owners save about 17 per cent on energy costs in 2025 and avoided more than 102,130 metric tons of carbon dioxide, per the release.
