A chair for The Sirius Hotel Group
The Sirius Hotel Group has appointed John Adams as chair. He succeeds Jane Bentall. The group announced the appointment in a release dated 12 October 2026 and said Adams moves into the role as the company enters a new phase of growth.
Adams joined the hotel management company as a non-executive director in 2016. The group credits him with 45 years of experience across financial roles. It describes his work at the company as putting corporate governance and financial reporting processes in place to support growth.
The appointment
The release states the appointment in a single sentence and attaches no effective date to it. It names the succession directly: Adams follows Bentall, who held the chair and remains actively involved with the business as a strategic adviser while the group looks to expand.
The group operates as a hotel management platform under two brands, The Resident and Four Points Flex by Sheraton. Its stated target is growth to more than 30 hotels in the next six to 10 years, adding more than 20 hotels to the current estate.
The chief executive on the appointment
David JM Orr, chief executive of The Sirius Hotel Group, said: “We are privileged to be able to draw on John’s expertise as we grow as a platform with The Resident and Four Points Flex by Sheraton brands, building on our reputation-led track record for developing, repositioning and operating hotels.”
Orr added: “John has been a most trusted advisor for the past decade and we look forward to working with him in his new position.”
Adams on the handover
Adams said: “Jane is one of the most significant leaders in our sector and has been central to the vision and growth of the business during her tenure. I look forward to her continuing to support us as I take on the role of chair, working with the Board and the Executive team to build on the strong momentum of the business.”
A decade on the board
Adams arrived at the board in 2016. Companies House carries his appointment as a director of The Sirius Hotel Group Limited from 29 June 2016, and the record remains active.
The group’s own team page adds detail the release leaves out. Adams chairs the Audit Committee. Across his career he spent 14 years as a partner in a chartered accountancy firm and 20 years as a finance director, financial consultant or non-executive director in a variety of businesses.
The outgoing chair
Bentall took the chair while the company was still trading as Resident Hotels. Companies House records her appointment as a director on 31 March 2023 and the termination of that appointment on 13 May 2026.
The group’s team page lists her as Strategic Advisor since 2022. It describes the position as providing guidance to the board, supporting governance and helping the executive team define and deliver the company’s long-term objectives.
When the chair changed hands
The pages that carry the appointment give different timings. The release is dated 12 October 2026 and presents Adams moving into the chair. The group’s own team page records that he became Chair in April 2026. Companies House records the end of Bentall’s directorship on 13 May 2026. The registry and the company’s own board page place the handover in the spring, and the announcement reached publication in October.
Outside roles and qualifications
Alongside the chairmanship, Adams is a non-executive director of Millard Estates Limited and Grove End Housing Limited. He holds a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Exeter. The group’s release and its team page both describe him in the past tense as a FCA Chartered Accountant and ICAEW qualified.
The group
The company changed its name from Resident Hotels Limited earlier in 2026. Companies House carries the name-change certificate issued on 23 March 2026 and the resolution behind it dated 20 March 2026. The rebrand, the group says, was supported by its owners and was intended to support growth with capital partners.
The group’s own site describes a portfolio of nine hotels. The Resident trades in Covent Garden, Soho, Victoria, Liverpool and Edinburgh. Four Points Flex by Sheraton trades in Cardiff, Dundee, Edinburgh and Newcastle under a franchise agreement with Marriott International. The target of more than 30 hotels over six to 10 years is the company’s forward-looking figure, and it sits beside that current count of nine.
What the announcement does not state
The release gives no effective date for the chairmanship, no reporting line for the chair, no successor to Adams in his non-executive directorship and no detail on board committee changes beyond the audit chairmanship held by the incoming chair. It carries no remuneration terms, no statement on the size of the board and no trading figures for the group.
