Accor opens Finland with the Helka conversion to ibis Styles

Accor signed a franchise agreement to convert Helsinki's Hotel Helka into a 157-room ibis Styles opening in late 2027. The owner keeps the building and the operating company.

Accor signed a franchise agreement to convert Hotel Helka in Helsinki into ibis Styles Helsinki Helka, a 157-room property opening in late 2027. It is the first Accor hotel in Finland.

The agreement was signed by Hotelliyhtymä Oy, the company that runs the hotel. Suomen NNKY-liitto published the release on 15 October 2026. Accor's own release carries the same date and the same room count. Ownership stays with the association, which holds both the building and Hotelliyhtymä Oy.

The asset stays with the owner

Both releases state that the property does not change hands. The association's release names the arrangement as a franchise and states that ownership remains with NNKY. Part of the hotel's proceeds continues to fund its work for women and girls in Finland and internationally for the length of the agreement.

The owner's release adds two operating details. Association members keep access to accommodation at member rates. Bookings already made are unaffected by the brand change.

Accor's release describes the arrangement from the group's side. Under a franchise, the owner keeps the local identity of the property and keeps responsibility for daily operations. The group supplies its brand standards, distribution and booking reach. Yannick Wagner, Accor's vice president of development for premium, midscale and economy brands in Europe and North Africa, is quoted on the pull that conversion brands and franchise models hold for Nordic owners.

What the group gains in the Nordics

Finland is a new country for Accor. The release states that the group has introduced ibis Styles, Mercure, Mövenpick and TRIBE to Northern European markets in recent years, and that the Finland entry strengthens its position in the region.

ibis Styles counts more than 700 hotels in more than 60 countries, with more than 160 hotels in the pipeline worldwide, per the release. Accor's company section in the same document lists more than 5,800 hotels and resorts, 10,000 bars and restaurants, more than 110 countries and more than 45 hotel brands. Accor SA was founded in 1967, is listed on Euronext Paris under ISIN FR0000120404 and trades over the counter in the United States as ACCYY.

Helsinki gives the brand a capital city address. The release places the hotel within walking distance of central Helsinki's attractions, cultural sites and shopping destinations. It lists a breakfast restaurant and separate saunas for women and men. It adds parking on the hotel's own lot and in an adjacent underground garage, with access to a neighbouring fitness centre.

The district label and the street address

Accor's release places the hotel in Kamppi. The address in the owner's release is Pohjoinen Rautatiekatu 23 B, Helsinki 00100. OpenStreetMap address data for that street number returns the Leppäsuo neighbourhood inside the Etu-Töölö district, postcode 00100.

The street record fixes the district. OSM coordinates put the address about 250 metres from Kampinkuja in Kamppi. The Kamppi label in the release reads as the surrounding commercial district. The address record sits in Etu-Töölö.

The release describes the brand as affordable accommodation in design-led interiors. A Helsinki city-centre address gives that proposition a capital city base, and the release uses proximity to the centre as the property's selling line.

The building and the renovation

The building dates to 1928, when the association opened accommodation and a community space in Helsinki for young women arriving for work or study. Accor's release names the architect as Wivi Lönn, described there as the first woman in Finland to establish her own architectural firm. The release states that the building has provided accommodation continuously since 1928.

Both releases name furniture by Alvar Aalto and Artek among the hotel's Finnish design pieces. The owner's release dates the brand change to autumn 2027 and the reopening to late 2027, after a full renovation.

The hotel joins Accor's ALL Accor booking platform and loyalty programme when it opens, per both releases. The property gives the programme a Helsinki address for the first time.

The terms the releases leave out

Neither document gives the franchise fee, the contract term or the renovation budget. Accor's release carries no royalty rate. The owner's release carries no investment figure. The published record stops at the shape of the transaction.

Accor adds a country through one converted building. The owner keeps the asset, keeps the operating company, and keeps the channel that sends part of the proceeds to the association's work.
