Iconic Hotels & Resorts has appointed Michelle Walder as group director of operations. Walder joins from Hyatt, where she was head of operations for the lifestyle group in EAME. In that post she supported the European expansion of Standard Hotels, Thompson and Andaz.
The group announced the appointment on 12 October 2026. Walder reports to Shan Kanagasingham, the group's chief operating officer.
Her career spans Europe and North America and more than 28 years across luxury and lifestyle hospitality brands. She has held senior roles at Hyatt, Standard Hotels, Sydell Group and André Balazs Properties.
The remit at Iconic
As group director of operations, Walder oversees operational performance across the portfolio. She works with hotel teams on guest experience and performance. She also holds the group's culture and service standards.
The release names seven properties inside that oversight: The Mayfair Townhouse, 11 Cadogan Gardens, The Chelsea Townhouse, Nobu Hotel London Portman Square, The Lensbury, The Mole Resort and Strand Palace.
The release introduces the list with the word "including", so it describes part of the portfolio. It gives no location for each of the seven and no property count for the group.
Walder on the collection
Walder described the portfolio first. "Iconic Hotels & Resorts has built an exceptional collection of distinctive hotels and resorts," she said. "Joining the business at such an exciting moment in its evolution was a hugely compelling opportunity."
She set out what she said the group has behind it. "With significant investment in people, infrastructure and growth, and a clear ambition for the future, the group is entering a transformative new chapter," she said.
Kanagasingham on the hire
Kanagasingham gave the group's grounds for the appointment. "Michelle is one of the most respected lifestyle hospitality operators in the industry and brings exceptional experience leading complex, high-profile hotels and portfolios across international markets," he said.
He named three contributions. "Her track record of building high-performing teams, strengthening operational excellence and creating outstanding guest experiences makes her a fantastic addition to our leadership team," Kanagasingham said.
The leadership build-out
The appointment follows two senior hires in 2026. Iconic appointed a chief operating officer and a director of people and culture in the same year.
The release gives no start date for Walder and no predecessor in the post. It attaches no figures or timetable to the expansion it references.
The remit is the part the release fixes. Performance across the portfolio, work with each property's hotel team, the group's culture and its service standards. The seven named properties sit inside it, and the word "including" leaves the rest of the collection open.
