The blocks the week publishes
Three events share the Indiana Convention Center on Wednesday 14 October 2026. Two of them sell rooms through published blocks. The third sells none.
Furnaces North America runs 12 to 15 October on the venue’s listing and 12 to 14 October on the organiser’s own schedule, with a 1,500 forecast in Exhibit Hall B. The organiser holds the Marriott Downtown Indianapolis at $229 with a booking deadline of 25 September. Its Wednesday programme puts registration outside Hall B from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., technical sessions 8 to 10:30 a.m., the business expo 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and exhibitor move-out 2:30 to 10 p.m. The evening sits at the Marriott and stays inside the membership: a graduation reception 6 to 6:30 p.m., the president’s reception 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and the final night dinner 7:30 to 11 p.m.
The Best Practices Expo & Conference runs 13 to 15 October with a 1,200 forecast. Its organiser holds $214 rooms at the Crowne Plaza Downtown Union Station with a cut-off extended to Friday 25 September, and $229 rooms at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis for reservations by Friday 18 September. Both hotels connect to the Center through indoor tunnels, and the organiser states the reduced-rate inventory is limited.
The Indiana IT Symposium fills Sagamore Ballroom 4-5 on 14 October with a 300 forecast. Its own site publishes no room block, no rate and no cut-off date, and names no hotel.
The window the two cut-offs set
Both cut-off dates fall inside the three weeks before arrival. Unclaimed rooms return to general inventory on the cut-off date, so the same dates carry block inventory and open inventory inside one selling window. The Marriott, Crowne Plaza and Hyatt allocations release into the same midweek dates the symposium’s delegates would price.
The symposium’s own demand runs thin and late. Its base is a local executive audience, its programme covers one day, and its session grid carries no room commitment.
What the symposium publishes instead
The organiser’s agenda carries 33 sessions. Check-in and breakfast run 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., the welcome starts at 8:30, the closing keynote runs 3:45 to 4:30 p.m., and closing comments, raffles and a reception run 4:30 to 6 p.m. The published event window is 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The agenda names speakers and panellists from Lilly, CNO Financial, Elanco Animal Health, Labcorp, Red Gold, the NCAA, the Indiana Public Retirement System, the Indiana Management Performance Hub, Ivy Tech Community College, DePauw University and TechIndiana. A delegate list drawn from Indiana employers supports a light room pickup on one midweek night.
The numbers the desk books against
Engine measures the Indianapolis nightly average at $128 across 1.2 million public rate observations from May 2024 to April 2026, on par rates described as the cheapest publicly available price at the time of each search. October averages $134 and January $114. The venue counts 7,100 hotel rooms downtown and 4,700 rooms connected by skywalk.
Three hundred delegates equal 4.2 percent of the downtown count and 6.4 percent of the skywalk set. The two shows beside them carry 2,700 forecast attendees across four and three days, and their blocks hold the midweek inventory that the symposium’s delegates would otherwise book at open rates.
The desk’s Wednesday
The building runs one long shift. The Furnaces registration desk sits outside Hall B from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. after two earlier mornings, and its exhibitor move-out runs 2:30 to 10 p.m. The Best Practices floor opens noon to 5 p.m. The symposium closes at 4:30 p.m. and its reception runs to 6 p.m.
The venue states the skywalks close on a rule of thumb of about 11 p.m. and reopen about 6 a.m., and calls the exact hours event-dependent. The last function of the night ends at 11 p.m.
What the record leaves open
No publisher states how many of the 300 book a room or how many travel from outside the metro area. The venue carries no entry for 17 and 18 October, the Saturday and Sunday after the week.
Track the two cut-off dates and the release. Ask the organiser for the overnight share of its delegate list.
