Doors at three and half six: staffing a two-session Friday

The Portland weekend runs two sessions on Friday and Saturday. The roster has to cover a half-hour crossover and a 9:30 p.m. close.

Doors at three and again at half six

Doors open one hour before first serve across the league Portland weekend. Friday 20 November runs two sessions, 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Pacific time. That puts the first door at 3 p.m. and the second at 6:30 p.m.

The league times play at about two hours a session. The Friday shift starts before 3 p.m. and ends after 9:30 p.m. The afternoon carries arrivals and the evening carries returns.

The half hour between

Session one empties near 6 p.m. Session two queues from 6:30 p.m. In those thirty minutes the desk handles guests back from the first match and guests leaving for the second. Both ask where to eat and how long the walk takes.

Put a second body on the desk at 6 p.m. Put the first body on the door at 2:30 p.m. The half hour between the sessions is the window the roster has to cover.

Shift shapes that match the clocks

A 1 p.m. start covers the early arrivals, the bag holds and the 3 p.m. door. A 5:30 p.m. start covers the last check-ins and the 9:30 p.m. return. One person stays past 9:30 p.m. to hold the desk against the second session.

Brief the shift on the two session times and the team names. The league event page gives the format: four singles matches, one doubles match, a 10-minute intermission, then the Golden Game. A guest who asks when the night ends is asking about the 7:30 p.m. session.

Language cover at the desk and on the shuttle

The league states that its talent represents over 40 countries. It carries ten teams, and the Portland weekend puts the home side against three of them across three days.

Write the language list from the staff who hold the languages. Keep one copy at the desk and print the same list on the shuttle run sheet. The desk and the driver are where that roster of players meets a member of the team.

The eight miles to the airport

Portland International sits eight miles from the building. MAX light rail stops 300 times a day near the venue front door. Streetcar A Loop arrives at the NE MLK and Hoyt stop every 15 minutes, and Bus 6 stops at NE MLK and Holladay.

A shuttle that meets the 3 p.m. door leaves the property before 2:30 p.m. Run it again for the 6:30 p.m. door and once more after 9:30 p.m.

Saturday repeats Friday, Sunday turns early

Saturday 21 November runs the same pair, 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday 22 November runs 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., with doors at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The Sunday 2:30 p.m. match runs about two hours. The late-checkout request arrives at the desk while the match is on. Price the hold before the weekend and name the fee at booking, so the guest weighs the fee against a bag hold.

Group arrivals in one transaction

The league prices groups of 10 to 14 at 10 percent off and groups of 15 or more at 15 percent off. Groups over 20 add on-court moments and player access through groups@mltt.com.

A 15-person group reaches the desk as one booking and one key run. Pre-key the rooms before the coach reaches the door. Fifteen guests arriving at 2:45 p.m. for a 3 p.m. door need fifteen keys in one hand.

Two programmes, one building

Hoffman Annual Meeting and Dinner holds Oregon Ballroom 202-203 on 20 and 21 November, the Friday and Saturday of the table tennis. Two client programmes run in the building on the same two nights and send guests through the same lobby and the same curb.

Roster the door for both. The venue calendar lists nine bookings in November 2026.

A season calendar for the roster

Season 4 runs September through April. Portland is one stop on that calendar, and the league publishes the weekend list with dates on its ticket shop.

Date the extra shift from that list when the roster goes up. A desk that holds the weekend dates books trained staff before the schedule posts.

Four lines for the shift

Open the door at 3 p.m. Hold a body on the desk through the 6 p.m. crossover. Keep one person past 9:30 p.m. Print the language list. Run the shuttle to the 3 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. clocks.
