The week that gathers 24,000 people
SPIE Photonics West 2027 runs Saturday 30 January to Thursday 4 February 2027 at Moscone North, Moscone South and Moscone West in San Francisco.
SPIE's release of 14 October 2026 puts the week at 24,000 researchers, engineers, students and business leaders.
The organizer's landing page counts more than 30 plenary speakers and more than 1,200 exhibiting companies.
Where the recruiters sit
SPIE lists the Job Fair under its industry program as "Employer Alley - Job Fair".
The Career Hub, run by SPIE Membership, opens on Sunday 31 January. The Job Fair sits inside that opening.
The Job Fair page states a two-day run, with access through free exhibition registration or a paid registration.
Candidates enter free.
The 2026 listing read 20 January 2026, 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM PST, Moscone West Level 2 Lobby, with the same companies on both days. SPIE has not published the 2027 session times.
What the Career Hub puts in a candidate's hands
The Career Hub offers free headshots, career coaching, resume and LinkedIn reviews, immigration consultations, mock interviews, and networking and mentoring sessions.
It sits inside the SPIE Member Lounge on Moscone West Level 2, open Sunday to Wednesday 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Thursday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The lounge is member-only space.
The student route and its two dates
Student Conference Support for Photonics West 2027 opened 12 October 2026 and closes 11 November 2026.
Courses carry a discount ladder: 15 percent for SPIE Members, 35 percent for SPIE Student Members, and a further 15 percent on a booking before the Early Bird deadline.
Exhibition entry carries no charge. Registration is required, and an attendee selects the Exhibition Only option at the first step.
A booth-staff place is free to anyone with an exhibiting company.
SPIE's registration table prices a Student Member badge at $570 against $1,170 for a student non-member, with a step on both lines after 15 January 2027.
The pitch contest as a hiring signal
The Startup Challenge pays US $10,000 for first place, US $5,000 for second and US $2,500 for third, with the cash from founding partner Jenoptik.
A further US $3,000 goes to one finalist through the SPIE Jay Kumler Innovation Award, presented after the final pitches on Tuesday 2 February 2027.
Applications closed 10 October 2026.
The 2026 second prize went to SPKL LLC for its SPKL Flow Monitor. Coalesenz Inc. took first place for a hand-held coagulation analyzer, and Seaborough took third for EuroLED.
