The Approval, the Cost and Two Delivery Dates
Purdue University trustees approved the Academic Success Building in June 2024 at a cost of $187 million. The university broke ground on 2 April 2025 at the corner of West Street and West Michigan Street. The April 2025 release set completion at May 2027. The university's project page now carries an occupancy date of July 2027.
Two delivery dates sit on one project, two months apart. A revenue planner holds both.
The Beds the Building Adds
Purdue officials put the housing at 500 beds and the dining space at about 400 seats. The building takes 248,000 square feet. Track the 500 beds against the ceiling the master plan sets: 5,320 university residence beds.
Purdue officials also describe space for community use and a STEM enrichment programme for kindergarten to Grade 12, run in the evenings, at weekends and over the summer months.
Fifteen Floors and Sixteen
The April 2025 release describes a 15-storey building. The university's project page reads 16 storeys and sets out four levels of academic space, 11 levels of residential and one level for a mechanical penthouse. The project page carries construction progress to September 2026.
The building is the first structure Purdue has raised on its Indianapolis campus since the IUPUI split. Trustees announced that split in August 2022 and formalised it in June 2023. Purdue University in Indianapolis launched in July 2024.
The Delivery Team
Browning Day and Perkins & Will are the architect and engineer of record. Purdue delivers the project through Construction Manager as Constructor, and the project page names Sheil Sexton in that role.
The Campus Plan Around the Building
The master plan the trustees endorsed on 6 June 2025 runs to a 50-year horizon. It covers 16 new buildings on 28 acres, 4.5 million gross square feet, up to 5,320 university residence beds and enrolment of 15,000 students. The renderings are by Ayers Saint Gross and Depiction. Michael B. Cline, Purdue's senior vice president for administrative operations, called the Academic Success Building the first major step in the plan. Purdue states that it has established 10 physical locations across the capital city and works with 55 companies on student placements.
What the Record Leaves Open
No published page gives the construction contract value awarded against the $187 million authorised cost. The two delivery dates stand two months apart, and Purdue's physical facilities division holds the current one.
