Two lodges, both dated 2028
Field & Stream Lodge Co. named two properties on 17 September 2026 under a Bend, Oregon dateline. A 151-room basecamp in Bend follows a full renovation of the former Shilo Inn. A 148-room property in Big Bear, California follows a renovation of the former Holiday Inn Resort Big Bear on Village Drive. The two add 299 rooms.
Both carry an opening date of 2028. The release calls them the platform's second and third lodge since the Bozeman, Montana debut.
The booking window is open at one property
The brand's locations page carries one bookable lodge. Bozeman takes reservations now. Bend and Big Bear sit under a new-locations heading, each labelled Opening 2028.
The release states that details on Field & Stream Bend, including room offerings, amenities and opening timing, will come closer to the property's debut. It publishes no opening month for either lodge, no rate and no date when reservations open. A revenue team planning 2028 group business has no inventory to hold in either market.
What the two markets sell
Bend sits on the banks of the Deschutes River, less than two miles from downtown. The release names Mt. Bachelor for skiing and mountain biking and Smith Rock for climbing as year-round access points.
Big Bear sits a two-hour drive from Los Angeles in the San Bernardino National Forest, a 10-minute walk from Big Bear Lake and minutes from Bear Mountain Golf Course. The release puts winter demand on the Alterra-owned Big Bear Mountain Resort, spanning Bear Mountain, Snow Summit and Snow Valley across roughly 680 skiable acres. Summer brings boating on the 3,000-acre lake plus more than 100 miles of nearby hiking and biking trails.
The capital behind the platform
Starwood Capital Group and AJ Capital Partners founded the platform. Starwood describes itself in the release as a private investment firm operating since 1991, with more than $95 billion of capital raised and about $130 billion in assets under management. Its affiliate Starwood Property Trust has deployed more than $117 billion since inception and manages a portfolio above $31 billion. AJ Capital Partners describes itself as a vertically integrated real estate investment manager founded in 2008 and based in Nashville, with a portfolio of $6 billion across more than 100 properties and more than 50 markets.
Mac Stormont, a senior vice president at Starwood Capital Group, states that the partnership carries a long-term commitment to the brand. Scott Ebbott, a principal at AJ Capital Partners, states that the platform builds each lodge the way it built the first.
The brand's own distribution today
Field & Stream Lodge Co. dates its media brand to 1871 and states that it plans to open properties nationally. Its locations page lists one trading hotel and two dated 2028.
Bozeman opened in May 2025, one mile from downtown, and the property page carries an indoor pool, an outdoor hot tub, a courtyard the brand calls The Backyard, and two dining venues, Dry Fly Saloon and The Honey Hole. Room types listed there run The Bunk Room, The Queen-Queen, The Gallatin Suite and The Mountain King.
What the announcement leaves open
The release publishes no development cost, no purchase price, no renovation budget, no contractor, no designer and no management agreement for either property. Neither lodge carries a published rate or a bookings date. The franchise and management arrangements that decide where the rooms appear for sale are not on the record.
