The Signing and What It Changes
IHG Hotels & Resorts signed an agreement with Pacific Beachcomber on 16 September 2026 to convert the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa into Regent Bora Bora. The resort closed on 1 June 2026 for extensive renovations and reopens under the Regent flag in late 2027, which makes it Regent’s first property in French Polynesia.
Two distribution facts follow from the flag change. The property leaves the InterContinental brand, so the InterContinental Ambassador and Royal Ambassador benefit set ends at that address. IHG One Rewards earning and redemption continue across IHG’s brands, Regent included.
IHG places three Regent brand codes into the property: Personal Havens, Regent Experience Agents and With Compliments, the brand’s approach to inclusions inside the guest experience.
The Guarantees the Benefit Set Committed
The Ambassador terms list four guarantees at an InterContinental: a one-category room upgrade, a 4pm check-out, one complimentary weekend night, and a USD 50 restaurant, bar or spa credit or 10,000 IHG One Rewards points where a guaranteed benefit is not delivered.
Royal Ambassador terms add three: a two-category upgrade, a 10am early check-in, and two complimentary breakfasts per night in the main restaurant where the property has no dedicated Club InterContinental lounge.
Those clauses commit upgrades, a late check-out, a complimentary night and breakfast cover at the address. The Regent flag carries its own guest-recognition terms.
The 84 Villas Out of the Season
The resort holds 84 villas on a private motu on the eastern edge of Bora Bora’s lagoon, with direct lagoon access and views towards Mount Otemanu and the open Pacific. The closure runs from 1 June 2026 to late 2027, so the villas sit outside the market for the whole 2026-27 season.
InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort stays open under the InterContinental brand, so the island keeps one InterContinental address and its Ambassador benefits.
The Brand Ladder Behind the Signing
Three InterContinental properties have already moved to Regent. InterContinental Hong Kong closed in April 2020 and reopened as Regent Hong Kong in 2023. The InterContinental Carlton Cannes was renamed Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel after a two-year renovation. IHG announced in 2025 that InterContinental Melbourne the Rialto becomes Regent Melbourne with completion in 2030, in a deal that also moves three Crowne Plaza properties up to InterContinental.
Regent’s portfolio lists Hong Kong, Santa Monica, Phu Quoc, Cannes, Shanghai and Bali alongside the Bora Bora signing. The Bora Bora address is sold under the Regent brand from the reopening.
What the Record Leaves Open
IHG publishes no capital figure, no rate and no villa count change for the transformation. The release states a reopening in late 2027 without a date, so the revenue start of the Regent flag is unscheduled. Regent’s opening date is the number a market read needs, and it does not exist yet.
The question of which property converts next is the source author’s own guesswork. He names the InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam, on the basis that Katara Hospitality owns it and Katara also converted Carlton Cannes, and the InterContinental Bordeaux Le Grand Hotel, on the basis of its historic building and its two Michelin-star restaurant. IHG has announced neither. Both are speculation.
One more item from the source carries no measurement. The author writes that the resort was often reluctant to honour some or all Ambassador benefits. That is his assessment of the property, stated without a figure or a source, and it is not a published finding.
