The agreement
Sumi Yashshree Hotels & Resorts holds the management agreement for a 45-room resort in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. The company signed the deal on 13 May 2026 with GD Gardens LLP as partner, and placed the property under its own Yashshree brand. It announced the agreement as one of three management signings that day, alongside Aruku Mountain View Camping Resort and Yashashree Coral Beach Luxury Villa Stay at Bhimili Beach, Visakhapatnam.
The company named the asset Yashshree GD Garden Resort when it announced the opening on 19 September 2026. Sumi Yashshree described that signing as its debut in Arunachal Pradesh.
The route to market
The group takes management contracts under its own three brands: Yashshree at the upscale tier, Sumitel at the midscale tier and Sumi Stays at the premium homestay tier. It lists more than 27 properties across Darjeeling, Gangtok, Pelling, Siliguri, Kalimpong, North Sikkim, Tinsukia, Visakhapatnam and Araku Valley.
The group's own site carries the booking search for all three brands, and it runs separate pages for Weddings and Celebrations and for Conference and Meetings. Ten of the listed destinations sit in West Bengal and Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh will be a new state for the group.
The asset and the room mix
The Itanagar site covers 13 acres. The build calls for 45 rooms. Indoor event space comes to 9,300 sq ft across a 6,000 sq ft banquet hall, a 2,500 sq ft conference room and an 800 sq ft boardroom, with a 10,000 sq ft lawn and parking for more than 100 vehicles. Thirteen acres works out at roughly 12,600 sq ft of land per room.
Rooms carry the volume and the event space carries the mix. The group has published no project cost, construction timeline or opening date for the site.
The state's terms for new rooms
Arunachal Pradesh notified its Tourism Policy 2025-30 on 27 June 2025 and backdated its effect to 1 April 2025. The gazette published the notification at Naharlagun on 16 July 2025 in Volume XXXII, number 275.
The policy sets capital subsidies for tourism units. Wayside amenity projects receive 20 percent capped at 50 lakh rupees. Caravan purchases receive 20 percent capped at 10 lakh rupees for units costing more than 50 lakh rupees, limited to two caravans per operator. Market development grants reach 60,000 rupees for domestic fairs and 4,00,000 rupees for international events, covering airfare, participation fees, booth space and accommodation. A stall supplied by the tourism department brings 30,000 rupees domestic and 2,00,000 rupees international per event.
Approval runs through a single-window clearance system. The tourism department plans a dedicated tourism segment at an investor conclave for the sector.
The registration and labour lines
The policy records that hotels are not currently required to register with the Department of Tourism. It commits the state to enforcing the Arunachal Pradesh (Tourism Trade Registration and Regulation) Act, 2016 through new rules and to regular inspections. Every accommodation proposal will need Department of Tourism approval, and premium accommodation in district headquarters receives priority. A baseline survey will record room counts, bed counts and tariffs by district.
The policy reimburses a hospitality or tourism unit 3,000 rupees per month per intern, on placements of at least one month. Medium and large-scale units qualify. The candidate must be an Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe member trained in skill development and vocational courses in the sector through government initiatives or accredited institutes.
Access
The policy records road density at 66 km per 100 sq km as of 2019, against a national average of 165 km. The Sela Tunnel opened in March 2024 and gives all-weather access to Tawang on the Tezpur circuit. The state plans increased flight services from Guwahati to Tezu and Pasighat, and enhanced air connectivity with Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
